The Back of Beyond

Today has been one of those days, you know one of those days that I wish I had a lot more of.  Photos of one building then onto photos of another.  I am loving some of the opportunities that I have been getting lately.  The day was also full of ideas and grant money, or rather how to get some, and what I need to do.  It is days like this that make me feel like a real photographer, well a working one, haha.

I haven’t had time to work on on today’s images, so I have some images from my weekend in Inverleigh.

Birds Out of Trees

On our way to Lorne we went through a small place called Dean’s Marsh.  Down the main street some trees have been cut down and they have made sculptures out of the stumps.  Something that seems to be catching on.

Heads Coming out of Trees

This is another one, different sculptures.  They are quite amazing.  It is a lovely thing to do to the tree stumps, almost a new way of recycling.

Sunset 1

That evening the sky got cloudy and then I got to photograph the sunset.  This is the opposite side.

Sunset 2

Again, out the back.

Sunset 3

I went out the front and watched the sun setting and took this and the next image.

Sunset 4

I liked the way the clouds are enclosing in on the sunset, like they are taking it over.

I almost forgot I had these.

I will leave it there today.

  13. Incredible sculptures! In Greece you often see tree stumps just lying sullen. I think that this would make a great artistic project 🙂 Thank you for posting!

  16. Looovelyyyyyy photos! So unusual, did you know that those sculptures look a lot like Native Indian art in Canada? Anyways, I have thought that perhaps you can make some money from your photos if you open a small gallery in a small-sized shop, so that people can actually walk in and just buy a few prints. It doesn’t have to be an expensive shop, a tiny studio on the second floor of a building might do, if you put up a sign in front of the building.

Those sculptures are terrific. Next time I’m near Lorne I’ll try and find Dean’s Marsh. All your photos here are lovely.

    • Hi Leanne, it attracted me , I wonder who made the sculptures and why. Was there a story behind them?. Maybe not ? I am curious to know more. I searched quickly on the net but i only found out that they are indeed a tourist attraction. The human like wooden sculptures , I like the most. This because of the clouds above them. If you cover the left side a bit more, they become mysterious . They almost speak to you then. The sunset picture 16 , I like to . It seems that this place is in harmony as you made with this image. With both of them I understand why you took them . grt bart

  23. Leanne – That was an excellent photo shoot. Really enjoyed the tree-stump art and the sunset, cloudy as it was. Nicely done “working girl.” Good luck on the grant money, too.

  24. Until you mentioned that the carvings were tree stumps I had imagined them to be carved stone. I agree, it is a wonderful way to recycle!

If the last photographs are where you live, then you are truly blessed. Even in half light you can see that it is so beautiful there.
