Monochrome Madness Week 13

Is 13 a unlucky number?  I don’t think so and I am not superstitious, so let’s go with lucky 13, or a baker’s dozen, that is how many weeks we have been doing this.

LeanneCole-mmc13-0876

I have been very lucky this week.  A very good friend of mine has lent me her Canon 600D along with her 60mm macro.  Can you guess what I have been doing all week.  I thought I might use a macro image, and this is one of the few I got in focus.

preservationpark1-web

If you want to find out about Laura’s image then you need you to go to her blog, Laura Macky.

I hope you are all still finding the challenge a challenge.  I know I am.  This week was a struggle and I was worried that I wouldn’t get an image.  I really do love this challenge and I like how it extends the way I look. Here are the entries from everyone else.

Now, if you wish to participate and submit an image here is how you do it:-

  • You must email me the image you want to include and if you have a blog or website, or somewhere else, please include the link. My email address is leanne@leannecole.com.au
  • The image size should be as small as it can be, so the largest side should be 1000 pixels or less.
  • Please insert either your name or your blogs name in the file name.
  • Remember I am on Australian time, so with GMT I am +11 hours at the moment, I publish my post on Wednesday morning.
  • Remember to include a link to your blog or website.
  • Please remember to resize your images, it is fairly simply, you just need to go into any editing software and usually under Image you will find, resize, scale, or image size, something like that and you can resize your image there. Change the dimensions to pixels and make the longest side 1000 pixels or smaller, hit return, and for most types of software that should change the other side automatically as well. Just remember to save it with a different name so you know it is the smaller version.  If you have any problems, please contact me, I don’t mind helping out.

Please note you don’t have to be a WordPress blogger to be in this challenge, you can have a link to a Facebook page, a Flickr page, anywhere really, or no link.  We just want to encourage people to do monochrome images, just for the madness of it.

Just to let you know also, that as soon as the challenge is published, all emails and images you have sent me are deleted from my computer.  I respect your copyright and would never keep any of the images.

  3. What a collection! I love looking at these. Yours is amazing Leanne. That macro lens is incredible and I love the tones you gave it. It’s so pretty! But it’s funny how I can still see “you” in it. I’m going to look at these images in more detail now. Thanks for putting it together.

    May 28, 2014
    • I thought mine was a little boring, a bit of a compromise this week, but I’m okay with that, but thank you. I hope you enjoy your visits.

      May 28, 2014
      • I’ve never taken a macro so they’re always amazing to me. I’m greasing the skids here for a macro lens for Xmas lol

        May 28, 2014
      • I wish I could have my own. One day soon, I’m sure it will happen.

        May 28, 2014
    • I think a macro lens is a great investment as it is actually a multi-purpose lens if you think about it. I have a 105mm macro for full frame and it’s useful as a macro, portrait, and a shorter zoom range lens. It has great bokeh and really helps with the shallow DOF on specialized shots. Besides my ultra-wide angle, it is on my camera more than my other lenses.

      May 29, 2014
      • Unfortunately I have no money for one, and I have other good lenses, so right now my husband won’t let me, well, we don’t have money for it anyway. I do hope to add it to the collection eventually, but it will have to wait. Thanks

        May 29, 2014
      • I really need that lens! lol

      • Which Church? I’ve done two so far lol

      • The stone one is the one I was thinking of. I left a comment on one of the photos in the post, but I also think the first image could be good too.

  8. Leanne, another unqualified success in Monochrome Madness. Somehow, I doubt you will have difficulty getting more submissions. And I do like the macro image. All-in-all, glad I am not a judge–many great photos.

    May 28, 2014
    • I think so too. I don’t know, you never can tell, but I have one for next week already. Thank you. I am glad I don’t have to judge them as well, I like being the host.

  9. more and more wonderful!!! All so beautiful!

    • They are Cybele, it is eye candy every week.

      May 28, 2014
  10. OH, Leanne, I was wowing the entire post. These are fantastic and each and every artist, some I know, have done a super job. Some day when my life slows down, I will be among those who enter these challenges. Supurb post as usual. You really need to pat yourself on the back because you put in a lot of work on this post and many others as well. xx Amy

    May 28, 2014
    • That would be wonderful Amy, I look forward to when you are ready to submit an image. One of your macros would be wonderful. Thank you, I do enjoy doing this, and it can be a lot of work, but only if I leave it all to the last minute, must start next weeks post today.

      May 28, 2014
      • I know the feeling, about the posts. I am only posting every other day now and off on weekends. I am too busy with my flowers, Leanne. In order to bring to Petals these gorgeous flowers, I have to take care of them. I also take long walks to get more petals. I just cannot keep up with the every day thing any more, so I must cut back. Maybe when the weather gets bad again, I can increase my posts. And OH! I reblogged this post. All these artists are fabulous!!! Thanks again for doing so much work at your blog. Much Love and Gratitude, Amy

        May 28, 2014
      • I wish I had a beautiful garden, I could have one, but I don’t want to spend the time in it. I saw that you reblogged it, thank you so much, people’s generosity never ceases to amaze me.

        May 28, 2014
      • One of the things I love to do, Leanne, is to recognize others’ talents. Since I have been on WP, I am in continual amazement at the talent of so many people. Wouldn’t this world be a wonderful place if we all were encouraged to make a good living at what we love to do, versus what we have to do in order to stay alive? (sigh) So I really try to tell people go after your dreams, don’t give up, you can do i! So many deserving great artists that live in this world, and usually their work is not recognized until after they are no longer here on this earth. Sad but true. Anyways … sorry to talk your ear off. The young girl who checked me out at the nursery today got me chatty. LOL Have a good day, Leanne!

        May 28, 2014
      • Yes, Amy, I think it would be a wonderful world if that could happen. No problem at all Amy, I really enjoyed reading what you had to say. Brilliant. You have a good day too.

Since I will be gardening tomorrow, I thought I would reblog this post of Leanne’s In the Monochrome Madness Week 13 series. These photographs are stunning, and each and every artist, in my opinion, needs to be recognized. Please enjoy looking at these images while I am on my knees in dirt. (((HUGS))) Amy

  12. A stunning array of images, thank your or the inspiration. My husband uses a Nikon D600 & I will be sure to share this post with him this evening. Light & love to you sweet soul.

    May 28, 2014
    • You’re welcome, it is wonderful that people want to contribute and great that so many enjoy looking at the images as well. I hope your husband enjoys it as well, maybe it will persuade him to send one too.

      May 28, 2014
  13. very nice

  14. Another fantastic week of images, I love the macro, it really pops out with some gorgeous tones 🙂

    May 28, 2014
    • That is true Ed, and thank you for what you said about my image. Your image is good too, pats on backs all round I think. 🙂

      May 28, 2014
  15. Another amazing week. I love your macro. All the photos are wonderful. There are a lot of portraits and eyes. 28 Bright Pigments caught MY eye. 😉 Lots of angles, too. Wonderful and thanks for including me.

    May 28, 2014
    • Your image was great Nia, perfect for monochrome. Yes, lots of portraits, must be the season for it. You are welcome, and thank you for being part of it.

      May 28, 2014
      • Thank you so much, Leanne!

Yes, perhaps graduation has people taking pictures! I know I’ll be going to a graduation party soon myself and getting another chance to try portraits.

        May 28, 2014
      • MY pleasure. Oh, it is that time over there, funny, it is the middle of the school year here.

        May 28, 2014
      • Oh! So your school years are different … Didn’t know that!

        May 29, 2014
      • Yes, our school year starts at the start of the year. Finishes end of year

        May 29, 2014
      • Oh! 12 months, then, with breaks along the way, I guess.

        May 30, 2014
      • Yes, similar sort of breaks, they do 4 terms, with two week breaks to break them up, except for Christmas and January. School year usually starts around the first of Feb and finishes a week or so before christmas.

        May 30, 2014
      • So graduation ceremony happens at Christmas?!

        May 30, 2014
      • We don’t have graduation ceremonies here, you really only graduate from university, where you are an undergraduate and you become a graduate. Though lots of school have ceremonies and many are calling them graduations, but it really isn’t what happens here. For my daughters school they have a valedictory dinner, which was in November, they finish earlier.

        May 30, 2014
      • Wow! So cool to learn about these little differences. Thanks so much! I should interview on my blog!

        May 30, 2014
      • We probably know a lot more about your country because of television and movies. You’re welcome Nia, anytime.

        May 30, 2014
  16. Monochrome Madness has been a terrific success. Congratulations to our Leanne! Bravo, my friend! 🙂

        May 28, 2014
  17. Another great week of super images Leanne. Sorry I was too late for this one (must’ve been something about the 13, lol). Congratulations to all the entries 🙂

      May 28, 2014
  19. A wonderful selection of photos without colour. Thanks Leanne. Good luck with the macro lense….they are strange little beasties and require some getting used to. Cheers,Alex, Chiang Mai.

    May 28, 2014
    • Thank you, I don’t have it for long, but I am sure I will be able to borrow it again.

      May 28, 2014

    May 28, 2014
    • Thank you Andrew, I hope so, I do love doing this, and I love doing more and more black and white.

      May 28, 2014
  21. 50! Wow! Each such a delight. And bravo to you, Leanne, with the macro image. Lovely tone you chose. Thanks, as always, for the time you put into hosting this marvelous challenge.

    May 28, 2014
    • Thanks Stacy, and it is my pleasure doing this post, it is great to see what people send and then seeing it all together.

      May 28, 2014
  22. Another strong set of images Leanne. Sorry I’ve been meaning to contribute a bit more often than I do……I’ll try for next week

    May 28, 2014
    • That is one of the nice things about this is that there is always next week. I think I am the only one that has to do it each week. I look forward to getting your image during the week Mark.

      May 28, 2014
  23. I think this is the best overall selection that you have had, there is real depth to several of these photos.

    May 28, 2014
    • That is a great compliment Robert, thank you from everyone.

      May 28, 2014
  24. really nice images… one of these days I will remember in time to send one as well 😉
I am a subscriber to the Digital Camera magazine and thought I just let everyone know that they have a special issue about Black& White Photography this month with a lot of tips and tricks all around monochrome pictures (including some on how to process your pictures afterwards).

    May 28, 2014
    • No time like the present. I don’t really get any magazines, but maybe, if I remember I will mention it in the post next week. I know, when you send your image for next week, you can remind me in the email.

      May 28, 2014
  25. Again, wow! This gets better and better every week! I will try to ^participate again, since I will be traveling, so lots of new pictures coming up 🙂

    May 28, 2014
    • Sounds great Ingrid, I look forward to more images from you.

      May 28, 2014
  26. Great entries again! The monochrome madness challenge has quickly become one of the weekly highlights. Unfortunately I forgot to send you something this week, but I’ll be back in action next week.

    May 28, 2014
    • Now you have plenty of time for the next one Cardinal. I am glad you enjoy it each week, seems you aren’t alone.

      May 28, 2014
  27. Very nice pictures!

    May 28, 2014
  28. Love all of the images. So many different kinds, it’s amazing to see how so many subjects work well with BW and monochrome. I can’t see how we will get tired of this challenge. One of your photos in this post seems to be aligned to the far right of this post, but I think it’s an issue with my laptop…

I went to have a look at cameras again after work today. Was very intent on getting a compact mirrorless interchangeable, then had a look at the SLRs again and they were so tempting arrgh 🙂

    May 28, 2014
    • It is amazing Mabel. It does seem to be gaining in popularity, which is great. I can’t see the issue you are talking about, sorry.

Ohhh, new camera. Too many decisions. The mirrorless and the DSLR, biggest difference, size, the DSLR is a bigger camera and therefore takes up more room. Many photographers who aren’t interested in becoming professionals have traded in their DSLR for mirrorless and are very happy they did. It really depends on what you want to do with it.

      May 28, 2014
      • It’s probably an issue with my laptop, then. Sometimes when I browse graphic-rich sites, the images get all jumbled.

Thanks for the tip, Leanne. That is so true – what I want to do with my new camera. I want one where I can take around with me everyday, and at some point I want to get more serious about landscape photography. I am still very young, lots to learn but whichever way I go I think it will be fun. It will be fun 🙂

        May 28, 2014
      • You won’t know yourself with a new question. If I can help let me know.

        May 28, 2014

Once again, cool beans on this idea. Keep it up. Thanks for the honor of being in it.

    May 28, 2014
    • Thanks Hutch, it has been one of my better ones, though I can’t take all the credit for it. You’re welcome, thanks for participating.

      May 29, 2014
  30. Another gorgeous week – thank you.

    May 28, 2014
  31. Another great crop of images, I have decided that I want to take part in Monochrome madness but I can’t commit to doing it weekly but have thought about every two weeks, so i look forward to participating next week.

    May 28, 2014
    • People do it when they can Ben, so if you can only do it fortnightly, then that is fine. Glad to have you participating.

      May 29, 2014
  32. Ah, these are just lovely. Each one, it’s own work of art. Your macro image is so soft and deeply detailed. I could look at macro images for hours. Thank you for the continued effort Leanne. I love these posts 🙂

    May 29, 2014
    • Thank you Carrie, it was a nice image to get. You are welcome Carrie, I love doing them and as long as people want to keep doing them, I will too. I love the challenge of having to come up with something each week.

  33. Such a nice assortment. And, such a fantastic set of work.

  34. Ooh, I love your macro shot, Leanne! Another great selection. Can’t believe you’ve been doing this for thirteen weeks, and there hasn’t been a weak one among them.

    May 29, 2014

  41. Leanne, I have been enjoying this new challenge of yours and the fascinating work people have been contributing. I only rarely delve into B&W, but my submission here called for monochrome. It purposely didn’t punch up the results in terms of highlights, etc, in terms of keeping with what a mid-nineteenth-century photo might have looked like.

    • that’s great you want to contribute, but you have to send me an email, otherwise I miss people and stuff, so just email me the link to leanne@leannecole.com.au

      June 2, 2014
      • Thanks, Leanne. There is a WordPress setting that automatically emails the links to me when people send a link. Do you have that setting enabled? Might help simplify for you. Anyway, very good challenge wou have going!

        June 2, 2014
      • I don’t know about that setting, but you should be able to just click on the email address and send an email. I have most of the notifications turned off for WordPress. I do spend a lot of time doing these posts, and it is great when people just send the emails, they go to a special folder in my email and then when I am ready to do the post they are there and I don’t have to look for any. WordPress stuff was ending up everywhere.
