Rehearsing Plays at Heidelberg Theatre Company

Today is my quiet day, thought I would show you the latest photos of the play I have been taking down at Heidelberg Theatre Company.  I told you about the play a couple of weeks ago, it is called Little Murders, and you can go to the previous post if you would like more information about it, Murders with Some Drama.

I am just going to add some photos now.

  1. Just curious – what ISO were you shooting at? The images look pretty noise-less and the color are good. Part of my particular struggle with my older camera. Nice work!

    • I was shooting at ISO 2500, pretty good, the D300s was horrible with it that high.

      • Another reason why I have got to get a new/used (FX) camera. Thanks!

      • Actually the ISO was the reason I got one in the end. I was doing too many things where I needed to turn up the ISO and the old ones just gave horrible results.

    • Thank you, I like capturing those as well.

Little Murders look like much fun for all. Theater and plays are more exciting than movies. 🙂

    • It is a strange little play, but yes fun, and it is exciting watching it all come together.

  4. Looks like the set is coming together nicely. It makes me wonder what the cost is to put a play together with the materials and time it takes. It must be worth it if they continue to do so though.

    • I don’t know Justin, it is amateur theatre, but this is quite high quality, and they get the audiences, so they can do more than many others. A lot of set materials are recycled.

  5. Seeing a play come together, especially with the cast, must be quite interesting.

    • It is interesting, seeing how they friendships are formed and how the whole thing comes together. So many involved really.

  6. Looks like a lot of fun Leanne. Glad you are enjoying this.

    • I am Suz, I laugh a lot at rehearsals.

  7. Having just finished a theatre production with my middle school classes for a English Theatre Festival, these pictures look similar to my life over the last couple of weeks. The pictures are great, really capturing the action of a rehearsal.

    • It is quite exciting, I love seeing it all come together. I hope yours turned out well.

      • It actually turned out really well and the kids had a blast. They came third overall in the festival and first in their age group. Of course once one festival is over I have to start preparing for next years.

      • That is fantastic, must have been great to see how happy they were. Oh yes, the next one, hope you get a little break, I know it can be quite exhausting.

        June 13, 2014
      • Yeah, the festival is usually in may/june and I start casting and rehearsals in January with sets then being built and costumes being put together. The rules of the festival are that we can’t ask people to create things from the outside so we have to source or make it ourselves.

Now I am choosing a play which I will then refine in places (English is my students second language and depending on the language of the play I do tweak it) and then start thinking about everything else before we start in January.

This year we did Romeo and Juliet, Baz Luhrmann style.

      • That is a great idea, then there is a real sense of achievement because they do it themselves. Wonderful.

Sounds like a lot of work, I am trying to think of some fun plays, I suppose you need ones with lots of people.

That sounds wonderful, like lot of fun.

    • Thanks Paul, I also put them up on Facebook and think quite a few have found them there too. Might see you tomorrow.
