Monochrome Madness Week 16

Welcome to Week 16 of this madness in the form of monochrome images.  I still find it a challenge and still always wondering what I can do. It is great to see so many people doing black and white images, or images with minimal colour.  I have started thinking a lot more about black and white, monochrome and how I can do these images.

Since last week everyone enjoyed the smaller post, I have decided that from now on, if I get less than 50 images, I will post them here.  If I get more than 50 then I will post the first 40 here and the rest on the News Blog on my website.  Also in line with what Mary McAvoy has been telling us about SEO for Photographers, I am going to start renaming the files that you send me to help us all get better ratings, I hope that will be agreeable to you all.

Sills Bend, Heidelberg, Australia

I saw an image on the weekend of blogging buddy, Adrian Lewis, his blog is  FATman Photos, and I loved the colouring of it and thought I might see if I could do something similar.  I have played with it quite a bit in Color Efex from the Nik Collection and then I did more work on it in Photoshop.  I like how it has completely changed the image.  I showed this image on Sunday if you want to check out what the colour version looked like. It isn’t an infrared image, but I like the feel of it.

Laura Macky has outdone herself this week, something very different for her.  Well I think it is, what do you think?  If you want to know more about her image, then go to her post Togetherness.

I have said nearly everything I wanted to say at the beginning of the post, and if you are interested in participating, then all the instructions and what you need to do are at the end of this post.  Please read the instructions before you submit your image.

Now, if you wish to participate and submit an image here is how you do it:-

  • You must email me the image you want to include and if you have a blog or website, or somewhere else, please include the link. My email address is leanne@leannecole.com.au
  • The image size should be as small as it can be, so the largest side should be 1000 pixels or less.
  • Please insert either your name or your blogs name in the file name.
  • Remember I am on Australian time, so with GMT I am +11 hours at the moment, I publish my post on Wednesday morning.
  • If you need more help with sending images, and get confused about time zones, etc, well, there is a great website called The World Clock, if you go to that and look at Melbourne time, if it’s before 6pm on Tuesday evening, then you can still send me images.  If it’s after that time, you can send me an image, but it will be set aside for the following week.
  • Remember to include a link to your blog or website.
  • Please remember to resize your images, it is fairly simply, you just need to go into any editing software and usually under Image you will find, resize, scale, or image size, something like that and you can resize your image there. Change the dimensions to pixels and make the longest side 1000 pixels or smaller, hit return, and for most types of software that should change the other side automatically as well. Just remember to save it with a different name so you know it is the smaller version.  If you have any problems, please contact me, I don’t mind helping out.

Please note you don’t have to be a WordPress blogger to be in this challenge, you can have a link to a Facebook page, a Flickr page, anywhere really, or no link.  We just want to encourage people to do monochrome images, just for the madness of it.

Just to let you know also, that as soon as the challenge is published, all emails and images you have sent me are deleted from my computer.  I respect your copyright and would never keep any of the images.

These images are awesome! The tree at the top and end reminded me of how it looks when there is a solar eclipse. I like the eclectic mixes you post. 🙂

  5. Another fantastic set of images from all, each one unique and interesting in their own right. At first glance one or two will always jump out at me, but as I examine each image, I find it increasingly hard to pick a favourite. Nice job on the processing. I love IR but never seem to get the effect quite right. Well done to everyone 🙂

    June 18, 2014
    • Thanks Ed, can I say that on behalf of all of us? I find the same thing, a couple jump out and then they all look great. Thanks, it was interesting trying it, not sure I would do it a lot, but I quite liked the effect, I think Adrian’s photo is a lot better and more successful.

  6. It’s getting really difficult to decide which ones I like best because there are so many! They are all great actually. I love the variety we have in how they are taken and processed. Always inspiring to see! I’m leaving shortly but tomorrow I’ll post more on the images here in your blog. Thank you again for putting together such an amazing challenge!

      • Thank you, Leanne! I figured out how to see the comments. Use a different browser. Chrome wasn’t letting me scroll down.

        June 18, 2014
      • That’s good Nia, seems lots of people are having trouble with commenting or seeing posts on the blog. Glad you worked it out.

        June 18, 2014
      • The problem wasn’t with commenting on the blog, but on the individual photos. I couldn’t scroll down using Chrome.

    June 18, 2014
    • That great to hear Tracey, so many good ones.

      June 18, 2014
  14. Beautiful image this week Leanne a bit haunting yet really makes me think I am looking at a painting, not an image. The contrast between the fluffy round trees and the tall slender ones is gorgeous. And you are right, Laura outdid herself this week, love the prints on the women’s skirts. Another great week of thoughtful, gorgeous monochrome. Bravo!!

    June 18, 2014
    • Thank you Carrie, I was quite happy with it. Glad you agree with me about Laura’s it is great. I think it is another week too, and thanks for continuing to participate Carrie.

I’ve recently just went to a botanical garden and am thinking of submitting one of those photos for next week. I’ll have a busy weekend as well but I’ll make sure I sneak in enough time to get next weeks photo sent in. Great set of shots from everyone this week! 🙂
