Starting the Year as I Plan to Finish

leannecole-docklands-20140216-93391

Happy New Year

It is the first of January as this post publishes, and I no doubt will be fast asleep, well I hope I am.

In the last 12 months I have concentrated on learning things and trying some things.  In between I did a few art images. Admittedly the year started badly with a bad back that meant I couldn’t sit for very long and wouldn’t able to spend a lot of time working on images.  As the year progressed I still didn’t do many, but it is something that I want to get back to.  Robyn’s One Four Challenge was great to help me get back into it and realised that perhaps I should be doing more.  So I am hoping to do a lot more of this next year.  It is something I love doing a lot. My back is so much better now and it is much easier to sit for longer periods of time.

I have gone through this blog and the one on my website and found images that I have enjoyed processing.  Some you have seen, some you may not.  Funny when I look at them now, they are nearly all architectural, I had really noticed that before.

Be careful with the celebrations, but I hope you all have a great evening bringing in the new year.

    January 1, 2015
    • Thank you so much Amy, I’m looking forward to it and ready for the challenge. If you are blessed, then so am I Amy, thank you so much for being there. Take care and I hope 2015 brings you lots of creativity and not much snow.

      January 1, 2015
      • Believe it or not it is snowing here right now, just like it started back with that big storm we had recently. Just wow.

        January 1, 2015
      • Oh dear, I hope it won’t be as bad as it was last time. Fingers crossed.

        January 1, 2015
      • It’s not, Leanne. The storm fizzled out but the winds are howling. So the nice fluffy stuff on trees is not there. When the winds die down, I will see what I can do out there along with hubby. 🙂

        January 2, 2015
      • Still sounds bad Amy, I hope it isn’t too cold, it is so hot here today. 😦

        January 2, 2015
      • Leanne, it is blowing and very cold. I am waiting until the wind dies down to go shooting. Until then I chill. 🙂

        January 2, 2015
      • We are having exactly the opposite Amy, you stay warm, and don’t get a chill. 😀

        January 2, 2015

First…I do hope the back holds out. Yes…architecture…and so much more. The images…and processing…I love. You can ‘feel’ them…not sure what else to say really?

    January 1, 2015

    January 1, 2015
  25. Happy New Year to you as well. It is nice to revisit some of the image and to see them for the first time. I’m glad your back is better.
A quick question on the carrousel, is this an image of a full size one? In my memory, all full size carrousels operate counter-clockwise. It is strange to see the animals facing the other direction.
Also, thank you for hosting the Monochrome Madness.

    January 1, 2015
    • Thank you Tim, all the best to you in 2015 as well.
Yes, it was real one, it does work and I’ve been other times when it was operation. Maybe it has something to do with the Southern Hemisphere, LOL, I don’t know.
You’re welcome, thank you for being a regular contributor Tim.

      January 1, 2015
      • Well well well. Something that titilates my interest and demands research. My first thought on this is that some of the carrousels had ring touse (sp) where you grabbed a ring from a shute and then tried to throw into the mouth of a metal clown on the wall. Most people are right handed so a carrousel rotating counter clock wise is an advantage. No wonder i kept missing. I’ll let you know what results.

        January 1, 2015
      • It all sounds very interesting Tim, I hope you can work it out, and please let me know about it.

The second one is stunning- they all are but that one I would frame for my living room. Excellent work and happy new year:)

    January 1, 2015
    • Thank you, do you mean the dust storm tree? It is one of my favourites as well. I was really happy with how it came out. All the best to you in 2015 as well.

      January 1, 2015
  27. Happy 2015, Leanne, and I love** that tree at the top.

    January 1, 2015
    • Thank you and Happy New Year to you too. I love that tree to, I was so happy with how it came out.

      January 1, 2015
  28. Happy New Year! Here in the USA the new year is still many hours away, so reminiscing about 2014 is still the thing to do. Your blogs, challenges, and especially your photography, Leanne, has been a source of joy and a weekly highlight for me. Your enthusiasms is admirable, I only wish I could do a fraction of what you so seemingly easily and elegantly accomplish. All the best for the coming year, may it ge a great one!

    January 1, 2015
    • It is here now and we are all looking forward to what this new year may bring us. What a lovely thing to say Ludwig, thank you so much. It is all practice, I just keep trying things, sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. Thanks again and I hope you have a very successful and rewarding 2015.

      January 1, 2015
  29. It really is Happy New Year over there, isn’t it, Leanne? I watched the Sydney fireworks on video 🙂 A very happy year ahead and great health, I hope!

    January 1, 2015
    • It is Jo, it is 10am on the 1st, and I am about to go off and go on my first photography excursion for the year. We watched the ones in Melbourne, where I spent the evening we could see a few of the fireworks in the distance and then some on the tv. It was great. Thank you and all the best to you in 2015.

    January 3, 2015
    • Thank you Sarah, and all the best for 2015. 😀

      January 3, 2015
      • I think it’s going to be a good year 😀

        January 3, 2015
      • I think so too, it is starting out that way. 😀

        January 4, 2015
      • We’ve been hit hard by winter viruses but I refuse to let it get me down! Simon and I had to quarantine ourselves after our Shropshire trip because of norovirus but I had some wonderful photos to sit and work with 🙂

        January 4, 2015
      • That is terrible to hear Sarah, I suppose it is the season for it there. Glad you had something fantastic to do during your quarantine. That bug sounds horrible I hope you are well and I am so glad you aren’t letting it get you down. 😀

        January 4, 2015
      • It is the season, yes! This winter has been really bad for them. I don’t think I know anyone who hasn’t had at least one of the bugs! I think it’s worse in countries with very dense population. It just spreads so quickly! Facebook ends up full of everyone moaning about how ill they are. More fresh air for everyone I think!

        January 5, 2015
      • It sort of happens here, but not to the same extent, and perhaps, as you said because we are spread out so much. I think so too. Can never get enough fresh air, and good old manners, with good hygiene.

        January 5, 2015
      • Manners, definitely! People insisting on going out places when they’re contagious is something that really bugs me.

        January 5, 2015
      • oh yes, then doing things like coughing and not covering their mouths .

        January 5, 2015
      • Yeah, height of selfishness! A hairdresser friend of mine hates this time of year as loads of people (particularly women) come in for a haircut or facial because they’re ill with one or other bug. That’s just mean!!

        January 6, 2015
      • OMG that is so rude, I would have to cancel if it were me, besides who feels like having your hair done when you feel like crap.

        January 6, 2015
      • Yeah me too!! I could never do that to anyone. All I want to do when I feel ill is curl up in bed!

        January 7, 2015
      • Same, I hate leaving the house when I feel horrible.

        January 7, 2015
      • Sometimes I like to sit in the garden if it’s good weather but never further!

        January 7, 2015
      • That sounds really nice, our garden is so messy that it isn’t a pleasure to sit in, I must work on it.

        January 7, 2015
      • We have communal gardens at our flats but most of us have a little area of our own to do things with. I like sitting on my bench with a cuppa and watching the birds flying from tree to tree chattering away to one another 🙂

        January 7, 2015
      • That sounds nice, I think I would like that. I would like a place to sit outside, must organise one.

        January 7, 2015
      • It’s all the hard work to clear a garden first that’s off putting! Get a landscaper in 😉

        January 7, 2015
      • You got it totally, I will get there, but I want to wait until after the summer, too hot this time of the year. I wish, but it really isn’t something we can afford.

        January 8, 2015
      • It’s always best to do all the major cutting back in the late autumn and winter! I was kinda joking about the landscaping 😉 Yes, they charge a fortune!! We all pay a set amount each month that covers garden maintenance eg mowing, strimming, leaf clearance; but it’s the residents who all do their bit with planting and design. I’ve lived here for 10yrs and my climbing rose has only just made it halfway across the front of our little flat!

        January 8, 2015
      • I have managed to get rid of all the lawn, but there is still a lot of work to do, I have to so much, but I might just start with one part and then just keep going, it doesn’t all have to be done at once I suppose. Lucky you have someone to do the work, that’s nice.

        January 8, 2015
      • What are you planning to replace the lawn with? There’s a LOT of lawn here in our gardens so I’m glad they come round to mow! Between all the residents it’s not a large part of our maintenance charge.

        January 10, 2015
      • Small plants and maybe putting some paving stones down for walking around it. I also want to plant some big trees around the back, I’m think a special maple that grow tall, but not wide. Our house gets so hot in the summer and we really need trees around it to help with the shade.

        January 10, 2015
      • Oh maples are wonderful trees 🙂 You get that lovely dappled light through their leaves! What about tree ferns? I know they can be costly to buy as large plants but they’d act a bit like giant umbrellas for the shade 🙂 I saw a few photos of Jacaranda trees over the year and thought they were stunning too! I gather the blossom smells divine 🙂

        January 10, 2015
      • I love them too, they are gorgeous in Autumn too. I need trees that will grow at least 10 metres, as the shade has to go on the roof too as much as possible, we have a flat roof house and it is a nightmare in summer. I love jacarandahs but they don’t tend to lose their leaves in winter, and I want the sun in winter, though I do have one in my front yard. I have never smelled them, I haven’t noticed it.

        January 10, 2015
  51. I do so like the tree photo. 🙂

    January 3, 2015
    • thank you Suz, it was a great tree, I might have to try getting some more shots, in other conditions.
