Quiet Thursdays: The Macro World

fitzroy-gardens-leaf-marco-fineart

The weather last weekend was shocking, we had lots and lots of rain.  Don’t get me wrong, the rain was good, but not good for taking photos.  After using my macro lens again recently I’ve really got back into  macro and am having a lot fun taking photos with it and then processing them.

I’m trying to keep experimenting on the macro images, like the ones I did for the International Flower and Garden Show.  I am trying to refine it more and work out what I want with them.  I do like where they are going.  I will continue to keep experimenting.

The other day I took the Tamron 150-600mm that I have on loan from Maxwell International Australia back to the Melbourne Zoo and was taking photos.  As we headed to the gorilla enclosure we walked around the corner and there in front of us was Kimya and her baby. She has a name name and is being called Kanzi. She was sitting on a hill eating.  I quickly got some photos then, as I was doing that, she climbed down and within a couple of minutes she was gone. I got a nice image of the new baby, so I thought I would share it with you today.

I will leave you there with the image of mother and daughter. I’m out and about again today.  Some busy days ahead.  Think I will leave next week very free.  I hope you get some quiet time.

    • Thank you Joanne, I’m looking forward to seeing what I get in the future, I noticed I was looking or composing my images differently on the weekend, so who knows. I was so happy to have got that shot of Kimya and Kanzi, glad you like it too. 🙂

    • Thank you Sabrina, I love going to the zoo, I became a member so I could go many times, and I have so far. That’s good, I hope you get some great photos too.

  11. Lovely macros and great shot of Kimya–that should be on the zoo’s brochure!

    April 23, 2015
    • I did send a copy to the zoo so it might be in their members magazine if they like it. Thank you Cynthia.

  14. Great macros – funny how we were focusing on macros last week end. Beautiful and original… I like the first flower… So unusual. And of course endearing mum and baby!

    April 23, 2015
    • thank you Chris, it is funny, great minds and all that. I hadn’t seen one like that first one before, and now I am seeing them everywhere.

      April 23, 2015
  15. Fantastic shot, Leanne!!!!

    April 23, 2015
  16. Leanne, on the macro images did you shoot those against a black cloth? or black foamcore or what? I love them one of these days I will get a real macro lens. 🙂 Lucky you! They are great!

    April 23, 2015
    • No, they were all taken outside in the gardens, in their natural settings. I have to say I do love my macro lens and I’m so glad I was able to get one. Thanks

      April 23, 2015
      • Well what a great job you do Leanne! They are just beautiful. and a good macro lens is on my list of the needed photography supplies. I really like my extension tubes, however they just do not get me as close as I would like to go! Have a great weekend down there Leanne 🙂

        April 23, 2015
      • Thank you, a good macro is fantastic, I’m so glad I got one. The extension tubes are great as an alternative, but as you said there are limitations. YOu have a good one too.

Amazing macro images, Leanne! Love the last capture. 🙂

    April 23, 2015
    • Thank you Amy, I love my macro lens, LOL, that last one was a very lucky shot. 🙂

      April 23, 2015
  19. I love the fact that the baby gorilla seems to have a smile on his face as if the comfort of being carried in him mom’s arms is the best thing in the world.

    April 23, 2015
    • It looks very happy, I think, I think it might be, apparently mum hardly ever puts her down, which is wonderful.

      April 23, 2015
  20. Wonderful images Leanne .. she looks like she is holding that baby so very gently. Lovely!

    April 23, 2015
    • Thanks Julie, she is, I think, I was just saying, apparently she rarely lets her down, so she is being a great mother, beyond expectations.

      April 23, 2015
  21. All great photos. I especially like the gorillas. It’s usually so hard to get good animal shots since they’re always moving.

    April 23, 2015
    • Thank you, yes, you have to be quick sometimes. I just keep clicking and hope that something works. LOL

      April 23, 2015
      • same here, mine don’t usually turn out so nice, I just keep trying and sometimes get lucky

        April 24, 2015
      • I’ll let you know something, I am the same Jill. I take so many photos in the hope I will get some that work.

        April 24, 2015
      • LOL. I sure am glad they came up with digital! I used to spend a fortune on film. 🙂

        April 25, 2015
      • Same, I love being able to change things as well.

        April 25, 2015
  22. Beautiful Leanne – in my best day, my photographs aren’t even close. Love this series.

    April 23, 2015
    • Thank you Mary, I like where they are going, more work to do yet.

      April 23, 2015
  23. Such beautiful macro photos! And you captured such a precious moment with the gorilla & her baby :).

    April 23, 2015
    • thank you Jennie, I love that image, was a very lucky shot, if I had been another minute I would have missed it. 🙂

Love the green leaf shot particularly Leanne !
Aw that Mother really looks in deep contemplation there … while Baby smiles on .. much the same for us humankind 🙂

    April 23, 2015
    • Thank you Poppy, that was the last one I did, I like that you can use photos other than just flowers.
I think she was trying to work out where to go. It is much the same. 🙂

  26. Very nice macro shots! 🙂
We watched (today) a special on wild gorillas. They are very human-like… and were even observed using tools!

    April 23, 2015
    • Thank you Thomas. :0
They are, very, the baby almost looks exactly like a human baby, just hairier.

      April 23, 2015
  27. Lovely shot of kimya and kanzi.

  28. I was initially attracted to the beautiful macro shots of the flowers at the beginning of this posting, but the image of the gorilla Mom and baby really blew me away with its expressiveness. I haven’t yet hauled my Tamron lens to the zoo, but a shot like that really encourages me to do so. (One of the nice things about the National Zoo in Washington DC is that it, along with the Smithsonian museums, has no admission fee.)

    April 23, 2015
    • Thank you Mike, I think it was a lucky shot and I am very happy with it. You should go to the zoo, it is great. Our zoo isn’t free, but I became a member and has been fantastic, I can visit up to three zoo’s for free, and it will get me into zoos in other states as well.

  29. Hello Leanne,
Send some rain over to west Wales (What?!!). Love the pics, and the gorilla image is beautiful – light and pose – you’d probably go back hundreds of times and never get as good a one. I’m trying to work out whether the mother is focusing on the baby, or just lost in thought, assuming that gorillas do???
    Best wishes
    Julian

    April 23, 2015
    • I’ll do my best Julian, though we haven’t had a lot here in Victoria, it has been raining a lot in NSW. I think you could be right about the gorilla shot, it was a lucky one, I was there at exactly the right time. I think the mother was focusing on where they were going to go next. Thanks Julian, best wishes to you too.

I have to REBLOG these amazing photo’s partly because they are AMAZING and partly because I haven’t got my own act together right now to finish the blog I’m currently working on. I promise—this is NOT the end—-dah dah dahhhhhh….

  32. The macro shots are lovely but that one of mother and baby tops it!

    April 24, 2015
    • thank you, yes, I think the ones of the mother and baby have been the most popular.

      April 24, 2015
  33. Lovely images all Leanne

    April 24, 2015
  34. I was going to rave about your wonderful macro photos (and whine about how I want one and don’t have one yet) … but then I got to the gorilla mom and baby and … well … that’s something very special. I don’t even have a word for it.

    April 24, 2015
    • Thank you Marilyn, you can rave about the macros another time, maybe. I know the whining, that was me a few months ago. I was very lucky to get that shot I think, so I am very proud of it.

      April 24, 2015
  35. beautiful macro Leanne and I love the mother and baby!!

    April 24, 2015
  36. Beautiful macros!! But the baby stole my heart, that is such a delicate capture.

    April 24, 2015
    • Thanks Tiny, I think many people are having the same reaction.

      April 24, 2015
  37. I’ve just bought a set of three macro filters that screw onto the end of the lens, and am looking forward to experimenting. 🙂 Not the same as a dedicated lens, but I have a bridge camera not a DSLR so it’s a start.

    April 24, 2015
    • We all start somewhere, and I did the same thing, I had a 2x close up filter, it was a fun to experiment. Have fun with them. 🙂

      April 24, 2015
  38. Spectacular flowers! Great job! Beautiful colors! 🙂

    April 25, 2015
