A Quick Look at Lake Albacutya

Here I am up in the Mallee again and I’m trying to get out and take photos as much as I can.  Yesterday I got to go out to Lake Albacutya and have a look around. Jonesy from Yaapeet is great and often takes me around. He has a 4WD that can handle the very sandy roads. I would’t be able to see it otherwise.

  3. Great shots.

  4. I love the shot of the wooden walkway! I take it the lake actually appears in winter after a bit of rain 😉

    • That is a road Sarah, they use it to get in and out when it is flooding, though I’m not sure how long it has been that it was needed, not sure I would drive on it now. There hasn’t been any water in the lake for over 30 years, I doubt it will ever fill again, climate change is making sure of that. Thanks

      April 20, 2016
      • Oh climate change 😦 Yes we know it too well! Of course many people particularly in the USA refuse to accept that it’s happening. 30 years!! I can’t believe that’s a raised road 😮 I don’t think I’d want to use it!!

        April 20, 2016
      • I agree Sarah, though what I hear a lot is that it is a natural cycle of the planet, but every other cycle has taken thousands of years, this is all happening in a couple of hundred. Yep, I don’t know that i would use it either, but it is very solid, so it is probably okay, if it is the only way out, then you would do it. Thanks

        April 22, 2016
      • Yes, exactly! If the cycle was allowed to run at a natural progression then many species of animal already extinct or under threat would have had the time to alter feeding and migratory patterns, to evolve to be able to cope with different temperatures etc. The sudden shifts are just too much!

        April 23, 2016
      • That is a very good point Sarah, they would. The change is way too fast, and I think people who think it isn’t happening are in total denial, or rather they don’t want to admit that it has anything to do with them because then they would have to change the way they live.

      • Short-sightedness is a growing problem!! Everyone seems to think they’re so entitled. It’s all want, want, want, me, me, me. And then they’ll complain about the extreme weather conditions!

        April 26, 2016
      • It really is, unfortunately, all these people that think they know, but don’t have a science degree. It is certainly the Me society. Oh yes, exactly.

        April 26, 2016
      • I get so fed up with them 😦 They’ve all got it pretty good compared to huge areas of this world!! Over 400,000 dead in Syria now and people in the UK still moan about migrants coming over “taking their jobs and homes”! Get real!!

        April 27, 2016
      • I do too, the entitled generation. It is crazy, and most of that is because they are worried that they might be terrorists, how racist can they be.

        April 27, 2016
      • Have you guys over there heard about the abomination that calls itself “Britain First”? THAT’S how racist! Most of my home care helpers are from overseas. Lots from Eastern Europe and they’re all lovely but treated like slaves by the agencies! I keep reporting stuff to social services but I don’t think these agencies will ever be taken to task because everyone knows that most UK born people see care work as beneath them! They’d rather stay on welfare than work with old and sick people 😦

      • No, I haven’t, but we have had similar parties here, thankfully they don’t get far. Part of the problem is that the gov creates this fear in people like the Muslims so they can slowly take away more and more of our rights.
That is terrible, I’m sure it happens here, but we don’t hear much about it.

        April 28, 2016
      • They spread hateful stuff all over social media 😦 I think our media is actually much more responsible for creating a climate of hate and fear. It’s a sensationalist driven industry now but people still take the most ridiculous things as fact just because some paper printed it!

        April 29, 2016
      • I really know what you mean, it is especially true of the older generations, that grew up believing that. My brother is always saying look at this or look at that, but doesn’t do any investigations to see if what he is saying is true or not. It must be true because someone on the internet said it was. So much misinformation out there.

        April 29, 2016
      • My mother does it to me on all manner of things and then refuses to listen to any of my well reasoned and researched arguments!! She goes into a complete tizzy claiming that she knows what she’s talking about and isn’t an idiot. I don’t think I have ever called her an idiot for her misconceptions but she doesn’t like other people having a different opinion to hers 😉 I still love her even when she’s driving me nuts!

        May 1, 2016
      • I think a lot of people are doing the same thing, closing their ears and eyes.

        May 3, 2016
      • Oh and then you guys have Trump who really does trump everyone else on bigotry and racism 😮 I can’t believe he is getting away with the stuff he keeps saying?!?!?

        April 28, 2016
      • We don’t have Trump, he is in the US, not Australia, thankfully. Though if he got into power we would all have him, unfortunately. I can’t believe it either. Everyone keeps saying he won’t be president, it will be a disaster for the US if he does.

        April 28, 2016
      • Sorry Leanne, that’s what happens when I’m replying to people all over the world at way past my bedtime 😉 I know lots of sensible Americans on WP and here in the UK and they all think he’s an egit! It was bad enough when they voted Bush back in when he was a proven idiot but this beats all 😮 It won’t just be a disaster for the US sadly 😦 I am just praying that everyone in the UK puts their sensible heads on the day we vote on Europe! Leaving the EU would absolutely destroy us and the union.

        April 29, 2016
      • Well he hasn’t been voted in yet, so hopefully when the times comes it will come to nothing. I’m glad our political system is different. We have a major election coming up too and the imbeciles that have been leading us for the last couple of years have to be taken out. They have made this a much worse country, that’s for sure.

        April 29, 2016
      • Oh you have got some muppets at the moment I seem to recall!! I remember one of them making some sweeping statement about the refugee crisis in Europe from Syria amongst several other war torn countries. Sadly a number of people here seem to think it’s a good idea! At least the EU hasn’t gone as far as shipping them all to a horrific camp on an island that can barely support it’s own people. I just wish the powers that be had done something decisive before it became a crisis! It’s nearly half a million dead in Syria now 😦 Our current government in the UK is trying to sell this country off bit by bit. Slowly but surely we’re losing our national institutions and the corporations are taking over! Once these things are gone it will be impossible to get them back again. It seems that the entire world is in debt and pushing through harsh austerity measures but who exactly is owed all the money?!?

        May 1, 2016
      • Oh yes we do, absolute muppetts, or bloody idiots, they have made this country do much worse. I can’t believe we haven’t been a target for some terrorist attacks after what our government is doing. They are so racist and what they are doing with refugees should be criminals, well it is, but who is going to arrest them. Many of us here hate what is happening, but when you have both of the major parties doing it, what can you do. Our debt wasn’t too bad until the jokers we have now got into gov. They complained about how far in debt the previous government put us, and this lot has quadrupled it or even more. The world has gone crazy.

  5. Beautiful .. Love the roo and the long sandy road

    April 21, 2016
    • Thank you Julie, roads are scary there, glad I wasn’t driving.
