Some Things about Me

  • I grew up in Northern Victoria, Australia, in various country towns.
  • I have lived in Melbourne for over 25 years and know it really well.
  • I have been married since 1990
  • I’ve been taking photos most of my life, though seriously since 1993 when I got my first SLR, a Pentax K1000, though I’ve done heaps, I am always learning.
  • I studied photography at NMIT, though didn’t finish the course because I went on to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts, which I did in 2006.
  • I can give technical advice about photography and some editing.
  • I love landscape photography, though I prefer landscapes with some man made element in them.
  • I consider myself a fine art photographer, a photo artist.
  • I love coffee
  • I have a cat called Tiddles
  • I love digital photography and the control you can have over it.
  • Buildings that are falling apart and ravaged by time are incredibly appealing.
  • I am good with faces but terrible with names.
  • I enjoy talking to other people about photography.
  • I have two red headed daughters that are now at Uni, so proud of them
  • My first experience with photo editing was about 10 or 12 years ago and was with GIMP
  • I first used Photoshop in 2003 during a photography course I was doing, but have only been using it seriously for the last few years.
  • It is always great to look at other peoples photos and help them make them better, or be amazed at what they have done.
  • I really enjoy showing and teaching people photography.
  • I enjoy photographs with a high sense of drama.

    • Hello Cheryle, nice to meet you, I like your work too, lovely to meet someone else from Melbourne. Thanks, it seemed an easy way of doing it.

  4. Leanne, you are a professioner i admire so much. Though i didn’t know how deep you are at d begining of my encountering your blog. but since i know, every of your like is a push on. Thank you so much.

  5. Hello Leanne! Thank you very much for the like on my blog post. I LOVE your black and white photos. I am not a stellar photographer nor do I have the right equipment to get certain shots that I want but your tips on photography will really help! 🙂

    January 20, 2015
    • You’re welcome, thank you too, no one thinks they are a stellar photographer, so I wouldn’t worry about that. The best camera is the one you have with you, so they say. I believe if you love taking photos then it will show in your images, so just keep doing it, and trying different things. I give tips when I can. 😀

  7. Hi Leanne, I just changed my last post Serenity at Sea II, three times !after the initial post! right after I read one of your tutorials. #1 don’t put the horizon dead center – I did. #2 don’t forget to straighten the horizon – I didn’t. Well, I went back and modified the same image and repost it 2 more times before I thought I had it looking better. Thanks for the tips. Sometimes we don’t see what is right before our eyes.

    January 24, 2015
    • You’re welcome, though do remember that the tips are just that tips, guidelines, and not rules. It is good to think about that sort of thing. I will have to go and take another look at your photos then. Thanks for letting me know, good to hear that they are useful.

      January 24, 2015
  8. Thanks for visiting my blog – glad you liked it. My photography efforts are pretty feeble compared to yours, but it’s something I like doing and I hope to learn more when I have time.

    January 26, 2015
    • You’re welcome, I think, though, that we all think we aren’t good enough. I know I often feel that way. If you love doing it then it will shine through and there is never a problem with learning, I hope to keep learning forever.

Hello 🙂 Thanks for liking my photos today. They were taken with my mobile phone though. I have a Pentax SLR, and I am ashamed to say I don’t use it that often, since its mostly quick shots I take, and I find having a larger camera quite cumbersome.. Having seen your photos though,, I am motivated to get to grips with it finally, and take some quality photographs! Thanks for inspiring me 😀

    February 1, 2015
    • You’re welcome on both counts Clara, I had a friend who came out with me one day and described my use of my DSLR as though it were a compact, that it was just part of me, which I think describes it really well. It does just become part of you. NOthing wrong with taking photos with your phone either, I usually try to do both when I am out. Thanks for coming over to say Hello. 😀

      February 1, 2015
  10. Ha! Hi Leanne. This is so familiar. I’m from Melbourne, too. I’m still using GIMP. I recently discovered UFRaw to go with it. Works really well. Thanks for liking my post this week. I’ll be back!

    February 16, 2015
    • Lovely to meet another Melbournite Richard. I stopped using GIMP a few years ago, mainly because at the time it was hard to get information on how to use it, it sounds like that has changed a lot, but I do love what I can do with PS. Keep in touch.

  12. Hey there, came by to say thanks for looking around my place. We have stuff in common, though I don’t even own a camera. I like stuff too. old ruins, junk rigs. visual nightmares.

    February 25, 2015
    • No need for thanks, really, I like checking out what other people are doing. So if you don’t own a camera, how do you take photos?

      February 25, 2015
      • I have FastStone Capture, and get it off the web. Not really efficient but works.

        February 25, 2015
      • I’ve never heard of it.

        February 25, 2015
      • It’s a screen capture tool. I will do an article about it, if you like.

        February 25, 2015
      • Oh okay, like print screen. So they aren’t your photos that do screen grabs on?

        February 25, 2015
      • No, I can only show others photographs

        February 25, 2015
      • Oh okay. so do you ever use the camera on a phone?

        February 25, 2015
      • my phone is not very modern, and not a smart one.

        February 25, 2015
      • sounds funny doesn’t it, the phone isn’t smart.

        February 25, 2015
      • no it isn’t. I can’t afford an android or iphone, or the bills that go w/them. I don’t talk on phones much anyway. I suppose I’m not very smart for not being more modern, and technically up to date.

        February 25, 2015
      • I don’t talk on the phone much, use it more for the internet, texting, taking photos that sort of thing. I guess we all do what suits us.

        February 25, 2015

  14. Thanks for liking my photography posts! I really like the photo of the ocean on the About page. I am particularly interested in nature and animal photos, but I sometimes take photos of buildings. I discovered gimp last year and have been using it to edit my photos. I used to take graphic design classes, so I’m familiar with Photoshop, and I find the two to be rather similar.

    March 1, 2015
    • You’re welcome. That’s good to hear. I am getting more and more into nature and animal photos too, not sure how it happened. I love photographing buildings. I used to use GIMP, a few years ago and then I switched to Photoshop. They are very similar. Thanks for stopping by.

  23. Hi Leanne!

I just read the article you wrote at DPS “it´s your photo do whatever you want with it” or something like that. It was sooooooo inspiring, and a relief to read.

I´m always reading these things about “how to take the perfect photo” and they are all so technical and boring and kind of kill-joy. Yours was the opposite, and I thank you for that.

I also want to thank you for all your likes on my newbie “experiments”. I hope that one day I´ll really learn how to use my camera, but I´m having fun messing around with it in the mean time. 🙂

    April 10, 2015
    • Thank you so much vafann, I really enjoyed writing it and the response was great.
I’m so glad you found it read able, that is good, I try to make it easy to read.

  26. Hi Leanne, Thank you for following my photography blog, Jane’s Lens. I hope you enjoy my work. I certainly have loved your posts and your passion for photography. I lived in Sydney for three months last year and miss your beautiful country.

    April 12, 2015
    • You’re welcome, I can’t promise to comment, but I always look. That is wonderful, to hear, thank you. Sydney, that place, haha. Next time you will have to come to Melbourne, much nicer here, coffee’s better too. LOL

      April 12, 2015
      • We spent a week visiting a friend in Melbourne and it was fabulous. Funny, she said the same thing 🙂 we had some great coffee. A small place we went to several times in an alley w just a counter. Will look it up. I’d come back in a second if it were a wee bit easier to do!. 😊

        April 12, 2015
      • There is a bit of a revelry between Melbourne and Sydney, though those of us who live in Melbourne know it is the best. 🙂 There are so many places to get good coffee here. Was the place called Jungle Juice? I hope you can come back, great place for photos.
