Quiet Thursday: Macro Bee

Quiet Thursdays

Actually I don’t know that today will be quiet. It is always a nice thought, but I did have a lovely day yesterday.

Today we are putting the finishing touches on the magazine. We hope that today it will be all put together and that we just have to fine tune it after today. It is quite exciting. I’m as excited about this one as I was was for the last one. I love that. I have the cover ready to show you.

I think it looks great, and I hope you do to. If you go to the Dynamic Range Page on my website you will see a list of all the articles and what they are about. I’m sure there is something there to interest everyone.

I also have a massive favour to ask, would you please copy and paste the cover photo and share it on your social media sites. It would be wonderful if we could get the word out to everyone, well nearly everyone, that the magazine will be available for sale next Tuesday. Thank you.

I also have a link for you today. My friend Melissa does a lot of marketing for women and she has written a blog post on using Instagram. It is all about how to increase your following. I have been doing a lot of what she said and I’ve managed to double my following since. I also get to see some amazing photos. Not all photos on Instagram are taken with phones. Her blog post is:

5 tips to grow your Instagram following

So for those of you that wanted to know how to do it, Melissa explains it very well.

That’s it for today, a quick post. It is raining here today, very heavy rain too. I’m not complaining as it might be the last rain we get for months. I hope you like the weather where you are.

Quiet Thursday

For me this is a great post after a busy Wednesday. I won’t talk a lot, but I have some photos to show you. These were all done in the last week and put up on my Social Media sites. I’ve been trying to use Instagram more. Apparently one of the ones you should be involved in right now. I got some tips from an unexpected guest last week and I’ve been managing to grow my followers. I still don’t really know what I’m doing, but I get to look at some amazing photography, that can’t be a bad thing.

The first three are from a trip to the coast last Thursday. We went in search of the famous Dragon’s Head at Number 16 beach. We weren’t sure we would find it, but we did.  The third image is from Shelly Beach near Sorrento. It has lots of piers. I had fun doing lots of long exposures that day. It is also where I was walking around in the water with my new Merrell shoes.

The last image is from a trip into the city last Friday. We went into the foyer of a building and took some photos. We did ask if it was okay. This is one of the photos I took.

I hope you have a lovely quiet day. Not sure I will, have to move on with the magazine, but all good really.

Quiet Thursday

It is time for a bit quiet, well for today anyway. I am just going to show you three photos.

This is from the same series as my MM photo yesterday. It is the main area at the Grand Central Station or terminal. I had originally done it for MM, but then put it all over my social media sites so I decided to do another one for it, but I still wanted you to see it.

Yesterday I was in the city taking some photos with a friend and we were wondering around the lanes looking at some of the graffiti and this is one of things I found. Such a great pig. I can’t help staring at it.

Another photo from yesterday. I don’t normally do street photography, but once I put the Tamron 28-300mm on, I couldn’t help myself. I was snapping people all over the place. I like the story in this image, or rather I think there is a story there. What do you think?

I’m off out taking photos again today, down the coast. It should be fun I think. I’m looking forward to doing some long exposures with my filters. It seems like forever since I took any. I hope you have an interesting day ahead.

Quiet Thursdays

Quiet Thursday or Frantic Thursday, I wasn’t really sure what to call this post. I have five days left to get things organized for my trip so I’m busy trying to some things finished.

While I haven’t had a lot of time to go and take photos there has been a couple of opportunities. I’ve also done some work on some other photos taken at different times. I’m trying to build up my Flickr profile so I’ve been trying to get more photos up there. I like the way my page is starting to look and how it showcases me. So I thought I would show you some of the photos that I’ve had up there this week.

A lot of the photos I put up there I have already had on this blog.

I also put up the image from Monochrome Madness yesterday, but the colour version.

I think it gives it a very different look. I like the lushness of the green.

The same day that I took the above image I also took a lot more, but decided to do a couple for you here.

It was a morning and early afternoon of looking for the light. We were inspired by it and trying to see it everywhere. When we got to the Yarra River it was great to see the tree roots trying to find the water. There were so many and it was like a city of roots.

Another thing that I’ve been challenging myself to do is to post at least one photo a day on Instagram. I want to get a lot better at using it for when I am away. I’m sure I will be posting lots of photos on it and Flickr really.

Today I thought I would leave you with a gallery of photos I’ve posted on Instagram. All these photos were taken with my phone, I don’t tend to put photos I’ve taken with D800 on it, but might start doing some. Have a nice relaxing day.

Quiet Thursdays: Playing with Images

One thing I have been doing a lot in the last week is playing with a lot more images. Nearly every day I’ve done at least one which has been wonderful. It is something I really enjoy doing, but really haven’t been doing enough of lately. I need to start making more time for it. As a consequence I only have a few photos to show you.

When I show these they are usually ones I’ve done a lot more processing on. I don’t do that with my weekend wanderings post, well, not much anyway. So it is nice to just play and see what I can get.

This is my monochrome madness photo of Hopetoun Falls but I had to do in colour as well. The colour version seemed to get a lot more attention on Google+ which was interesting. I think I like the colour version too, there is something about the greenery.

Last Thursday when I was on my way back to Melbourne from the Mallee I stopped off near Castlemaine and spent some time with Bev from the blog FOZZIE.M. She showed me around where she is. I have been there before, but it is always better when you find someone who knows the area to show it to you.

The first image was an Instagram one. I took some photos of the top of a ‘mountain’ and while having lunch put this one up. We stood there and watched a bank of clouds come rolling in. The second image was taken further down the hill. It was very foggy and when I saw this and made her stop so I could take photos. I love the moodiness of it.

These have been taken from Seaford to Mordialloc at different times this year. I’ve been experimenting with my processes and I like what I’m starting to get from the more landscape style of shots. All of these were done with my reverse processing, and I really like the results. Still doesn’t always work out, but I’m getting there. Another thing I need to get better at is working on small parts of the image, I tend to still look at the big picture and not break it down.

They are all the images I’ve had on Social Media this week as well. A slow week, but lots of writing and organizing has been happening. I’m staying home today to do more and hopefully the Tamron 28-300mm will arrive. The 15-30mm and the Gorillapod arrived yesterday. New toys to play with, I can’t wait. Take it easy today.

Quiet Thursdays: A Very Quiet One

The trip to my mum’s has been good, the car was serviced and I have two new tyres on the front. It is so much cheaper to get things done up here than it is in the city. The bonus is that I also get to spend some time with my mum. Today I’m heading back, it has been a quick visit, unfortunately, and I didn’t get many chances to go out and take photos, but I think I will come back when I get back from the States.

One thing that’s been good has been that I have had time to write and have managed to write three articles fro dPS, so I’m happy with that. I have more to write, so it will be good to get ahead. I have a big job to work on for someone next week, so lots of processing. I love that kind of work, and I know you know I will be in my element.

The photos have all been done this week, and the following two were something I was thinking of doing for Monochrome Madness.

This is Cape Otway Lighthouse on a dark stormy day. I did the black and white one first then put the colour back in.  In the end I decided to go with the other image.

I’ve been spending some more time down along the shore near Mordialloc and one of these is an Instagram photo and the other two were done using my reverse processing.

These are three more Instagram photos that I’ve done while here. The train tracks coming into town, I do that every time I come, stop on the tracks and take a photo. The other two were taken on a day out, but more about that on the weekend. I had to stop and take a photo of the sign announcing the town coming up, Galah, such a weird name for a town.  The other is the Underbool pub.

The old church in Woomelang. I tried to do some long exposures of it yesterday, but the weather was a bit to variable and I got rained on twice and then bright sunshine in between, it was a bit tricky. I did several long exposures and then put three together. I’m trying out some new things.

As I said today I am travelling home, but I will also be stopping off in Castlemaine to spend sometime with Bev another WP blogger, and she is going to take me around where she is. I know we will have a lot of fun, so it is going to be a great day. I therefore will be away from the computer and have no internet access. I will respond to comments when I get home later tonight. I hope you have a lovely day planned and it is fun.  Take care.
